Chester Cathedral relies heavily on its volunteers who give generously of their time to assist in keeping the door open to welcome all of our visitors and help to meet the spiritual and financial aims of this wonderful establishment.
We are looking for energetic and dynamic volunteers, with proven customer service and administrative skills to help support our staff in all areas of the Cathedral life.
Admin Support
Team Leader – Carmella De Lucia
Based in the beautiful surroundings of Abbey Square, the role of Admin Support Worker encompasses all that you would expect from a vibrant and busy office.
Primary Tasks:
- Receiving visitors ensuring the visitors’ log is maintained
- Answering telephone calls and directing to the appropriate person if required
- Processing incoming and outgoing mail
Secondary Tasks:
- Secretarial support to members of the Cathedral team
- Data entry
- Copying & printing
Volunteers will work alongside the Dean and Chapter Secretaries in the Cathedral Office, ensuring that the office is staffed throughout the day and presents an excellent image to visitors and callers.
The following skills are essential:
- Excellent customer service and telephone manner
- Excellent written and verbal communications
- Willingness to be flexible and to assist members of the Cathedral Team with any reasonable tasks
Experience in the following is desirable but not essential as training will be given if required:
- IT skills: Word, Excel, Data Entry
- Photocopying and Printing
Some aspects of work in the office will necessitate access to confidential information, which must be handled with sensitivity in the appropriate manner.

Volunteers must be able to commit to regular shifts, and when on duty are considered full representatives of the Cathedral and therefore complicit with all Cathedral policies.
