Today at the Cathedral

Groups are very welcome to visit Chester Cathedral, either as a destination in itself or as part of a visit to the city of Chester.
In order to avoid disappointment, all groups are requested to pre-book their visit. Please allow as much notice as possible as we are not always able to accommodate groups at short notice. Groups that have not pre-booked their visit will be asked to provide contact details on arrival.
Pre-booking offers a number of benefits:
Self guided groups are asked to make a donation of £3.00 per person by cash, cheque or credit card at the Admissions Desk. Vouchers from group travel organisers are also acceptable.

Guided tours for groups
A great building such as Chester Cathedral hides its secrets well! Our experienced tour guides can reveal this hidden world to your group in an entertaining and fascinating way.
A number of tours are available:
This tour looks at the history of the building and describes the physical development of the Cathedral. You will see how the building has changed over the years and discover the extraordinary story that lies behind its imposing walls. Your guide will also show you some of the little things it is so easy to miss.
A little less about history and architecture, this tour looks at some of the most interesting ‘things’ in the building, ranging from tiny carvings to huge stained glass windows and serves as an ideal general interest tour. The story of the building will be told in its historical context but this tour is also about looking and enjoying.
A short tour of the cathedral for those with only a short time to visit or a deadline to meet!
This tour is less about the cathedral today and more about the monastic story of the building, discovering how the monks actually lived here.
Each of the above tours costs £5.00 per person (inclusive of entry donation)
A tour for more specialists group – focusing on Chester Cathedral’s exceptional Quire Stalls – this session includes a talk on the stalls from the cathedral’s Heritage Manager and a visit to the Quire itself.
This tour costs £12.50 per person (inclusive of entry donation)
We can adapt all of our tours to meet your specific needs and requirements and we’d be very pleased to discuss any specific requests you might have.
