Support and development

The Society of Friends of Chester Cathedral was founded by Dean Frank Selwyn Bennett in 1930, membership is thriving with over 800 members!

The Friends of Chester Cathedral aim to support and work with the Dean and Chapter. They help with maintaining improving and enhancing the fabric, fittings, ornaments and monuments of the cathedral, whilst supporting its life, worship and ministry. The society has supported a wide variety of developments across the cathedral and particularly in the areas of worship and music. They also provide funds for the maintenance of the fabric and the furniture of the building.

The Friends cover the cost of providing flower arrangements in the church and help the gardening group that kindly maintain the Cathedral grounds. Our very popular weekly lunchtime Organ Recitals are also financially supported by the Friends.

A number of social events are held by the Friends during the year as well as a very popular overnight trip, the annual meeting is held every June and all members are invited to attend!
