The new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into force on 25 May 2018, replacing the 1998 Data Protection Act. Under this regulation we are required to provide the information given here in this Privacy Statement. This states how we gather and store your personal information. How we gather information
When a member completes a membership application form, that data is entered into our membership database. Members can request this data to be updated by email, by post or by speaking to the Membership Secretary.

How we use your data
The data held will only be used by The Friends of Chester Cathedral to manage membership subscriptions and to send you information about events, activities and fundraising appeals which we think will be of interest to you.
Protecting your data
Data is kept secure on our database with appropriate security measures in place.
The Friends of Chester Cathedral will not share your data with third parties except where required to do so by law. For example, in relation to Gift Aid, we may be required to provide donor name and postcode to the HMRC and the amount of the subscription.
We do not currently admit children as members and therefore do not keep data relating to children.
Length of time we hold your data
We keep your data while you are a member and until such time as we believe your membership is not likely to be renewed.
