Safe Spaces is a service delivered by Victim Support and funded by the Church of England and the Catholic Church of England and Wales. We provide a confidential service for anyone who has experienced any kind of abuse within, or as a result of, their relationship with the Church of England, the Church in Wales, or the Catholic Church of England and Wales. The service is provided virtually by telephone or live chat depending on what’s best for you. When you first contact us we will assess with you what your needs are and will do our best to help you address those needs. We have a number of different ways of doing this; sometimes just by listening but sometimes by talking to you about our online services such as My Support Space which we will talk about later in this newsletter. There isn’t a time limit to the service and we’ll work with you on your journey to recovery. This service is a pilot, we are learning together and so are hoping you will help us improve, and shape our future, by joining our Steering Group or Development Network. The Safe Spaces team is made up of advocates who have knowledge and training in how the Churches respond to abuse cases, as well as the way in which faith and Churchrelated settings have been used to carry out abuse as well as particular issues affecting a person’s relationship with the church.
