Transforming Lives Together (TLT) works to stimulate and support church social action, encouraging church engagement with people living in their local communities. We focus on responding to the issues of poverty, inequality, social isolation and loneliness. We roughly work in the area covered by the Diocese of Chester which includes eleven local authorities.
We work with churches of different denominations and also partner with the voluntary and statutory sectors. The people who benefit from the work of our churches are from all faiths or none. TLT has developed two initiatives which respond to food poverty and social isolation and loneliness. These are ‘Filling the Gap’, a network of churches delivering food and activities during the school holidays aimed specifically at families in receipt of free school meals but open to anyone. We have twenty Filling the Gap churches at present.
The second initiative is ‘Places of Welcome’. These are churches, libraries, community centres etc. which provide a weekly welcome to people from all backgrounds and ages to come together in a safe place to meet, have refreshments and make friends. There are currently thirty-five Places of Welcome across the Diocese and Chester Cathedral is one of them.
We would love to hear from you if you have any questions or if you would like to discuss an idea you have for getting your church more involved with your community.
