Our volunteers generously give their time to welcome our visitors and help to meet the spiritual and financial aims of the cathedral. We are always looking for energetic and dynamic volunteers to help support our staff across all areas.
Due to a huge increase in the number of visitors, the cathedral is looking to recruit additional guides. Guides lead visitors on a historical journey through time, uncovering its secrets, its stories of the past and its hidden gems through the daily tours offered to visitors.
New members of the team receive training, and are invited to training events throughout the year. All our volunteer guides must have good interpersonal skills, communication skills, and a desire to learn. In some cases, volunteers are asked to undergo a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check before commencing duties.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer guide or would like further information about the role please contact:
The list below indicates the areas in which we are currently seeking volunteers:
Welcoming – Must be fit enough to stand and greet visitors. We especially welcome volunteers with foreign language skills;
Tower Tour – Must be fit enough to climb 216 steps;
Education – May require a DBS check;
LEGO – Help build a miniature cathedral while interacting with our many visitors.
All volunteers must be able to commit to regular shifts and when on duty are considered full representatives of the cathedral and, therefore, complicit with all cathedral policies.
