Volunteering

chester-cathedral-volunteers-legoGet involved at Chester Cathedral

Our volunteers generously give their time to welcome our visitors and help to meet the spiritual and financial aims of the cathedral. We are always looking for energetic and dynamic volunteers to help support our staff across all areas.

Volunteer Vacancy – Cathedral Shop
Hours 10 am – 3 pm – Thursdays and ad-hoc days where possible

Our Cathedral Shop is looking for a lively person to help support the work ethic of raising money for the upkeep of the cathedral via this commercial outlet, and who is passionate about providing good customer service.

The successful applicant must be able to work within a team, be confident & friendly towards customers, happy to get to know the till system and to check deliveries. Full training will be given.  If you are interested in this volunteer opportunity, please contact Patricia Faraday by email at
volunteercoordinator@chestercathedral.com

Our vergers are a busy team who are responsible for verging during services and preparing spaces for services and special events. Cathedral vergers also play an active role in maintaining the traditions of our magnificent church and monastic complex.

Due to a huge increase in the number of visitors, the cathedral is looking to recruit additional guides. Guides lead visitors on a historical journey through time, uncovering its secrets, its stories of the past and its hidden gems through the daily tours offered to visitors.

New members of the team receive training, and are invited to training events throughout the year.  All our volunteer guides must have good interpersonal skills, communication skills, and a desire to learn. In some cases, volunteers are asked to undergo a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check before commencing duties.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer guide or would like further information about the role please contact:
