Chester Cathedral is seeking a Canon for Worship and Spirituality – A priest with at least six years in holy orders who will play a full part in the work of the Cathedral Chapter and Leadership Team, and especially hold the brief for the liturgical and spiritual formation of the Cathedral community, leading those who resource, lead and contribute to worship.
The Cathedral is in the process of reconstituting its governance structures in line with the Cathedrals Measure 2021. We expect to have completed this process and recruited the reformed Chapter in the first quarter of 2023. In late 2023 we will review our strategic plan with the Chapter. This is a good time for our new Canon for Worship and Spirituality to join us. The current strategic plan has identified the need to cherish our traditional services but also to reach demographics who find it difficult to relate to the more formal styles. This is a theme we hope the new Canon for Worship and Spirituality will be able to develop as a priority.
The Cathedral’s Leadership Team is not as diverse in its composition as we aspire to be. Applications are particularly encouraged from candidates who can help enrich and broaden our largely white British heritage.”
Our Application Pack, available to download below, outlines much wider the Canon Residentiary role.
