The 2019 Canon Chancellor Award

Celebrating teaching Christianity in schools using the medium of poetry and song-writing.

Who is the award for?

All schools are eligible to apply. Prizes will be awarded to two primary schools, two secondary schools and one special school or special needs department.  Each winning school will receive:

• A visit for 32 pupils to Chester Cathedral at no charge
• £200 towards the cost of transport for the cathedral visit

Winning schools will be invited to Chester Cathedral to receive their award on Tuesday 5 March 2019 at 11.30am.

What needs to be submitted?

Copies of two pieces of work (poem or song) from each Key Stage entered, using any of the following aspects of Christian Concepts.

Winning schools will be invited to read/sing/perform their prize entries at the Award Ceremony.

KS 1 & 2

Any aspect of the concept of God, Creation or Incarnation.

KS 3 & 4

Any aspect of the concept of the Fall, Salvation or Gospel.

Entries may focus on one concept, or a combination of concepts at each Key Stage.


Statement of interest: Friday 30 November 2018
Closing date: Friday 1 February 2019

The winning pieces of work will be displayed in the cathedral.  Please indicate if you are considering entering by the statement of interest deadline above.
