This exhibition is the last event in the Cheshire Artists Network ‘World War I Commemorative Project’.
It began in 2014 and aimed to remember those who took part both in the fighting and in supporting roles. The Cheshire Artists Network (CAN) held twelve exhibitions, made up of three different bodies of work, which visited Cheshire, Wirral and Shropshire. Over an eighteen month period ending in June 2015, ninety pieces of work were shown including some from German and Spanish artists. Chester Cathedral hosted the work in January 2015.
War & Peace marks the cessation of hostilities and celebrates the coming of peace. This allows artists to show some previous work and to add to it with more joyful images within the legacy of the war. Although there will be many of the same artists involved, there are a number who have joined CAN since the initial part of the project, so the exhibition will look very different. The German and Spanish artists will again be participating.
CAN is an artist led organisation currently with forty two members. Artists are selected on the basis that they are professional, live and work in Cheshire and have a proven record of good practice.
Please note – on Sundays, the exhibition is open 1pm – 4pm.
