The Deanery Field in Chester was once home to Roman soldiers. Excavations in the 1920s and 30s revealed Roman barrack blocks and buildings.
During the Festival of Archaeology visitors will be able to visit a free exhibition detailing the results of the excavation and exhibiting finds from the dig. The exhibit will be hosted in the King Charles Tower on Chester’s historic city walls.
Archaeological handling collections and children’s activities will also be available.
In addition, geophysical survey will be underway and visible from the city walls. We are looking for volunteers of all ages to come down and participate in the survey, helping us reveal more information about this area of the Roman Fort. No experience is necessary.
If you would like to get involved or simply find out more please contact email@example.com
The exhibition will run for the whole 2 weeks of the Festival of Archaeology, but activities (including the survey) will only be taking place on the 23rd and 24th July.
