Jon Turley has joined the Cathedral as a highly experienced commercial operations specialist, with a brief to consolidate and grow our commercial activities. Turley joins from Chester Zoo where he had been since 2014, and where he ensured the guest experience for its 2.1 million visitors per year was of the highest possible standard, and contributed towards it being the most visited attraction outside of London. Responsible for a team of 250 at the zoo, Turley maximised commercial performance through programme design and delivery whilst managing all elements of the facility itself. Prior to Chester Zoo, Turley held key finance and operational roles for high street stalwart, M&S, and was part of the senior team which opened the largest eco-friendly store in the UK at Cheshire Oaks.
Turley further strengthens the well-established and respected Cathedral team under the leadership of Dean Tim Stratford.

I’m married to Zosia, with 2 children Eddie and Nola. I grew up in Scarborough before heading to University to study Marketing at Lancaster. I spent 11 years in various management roles at M&S, the highlight being Finance & Operations Manager opening Cheshire Oaks. I then spent six years at Chester Zoo as Head of Guest Experience.
What is your favourite film?
My family tell me that I can’t sit still long enough to watch a film, and with two young children when we do visit the cinema it is usually them who decide what we go and see. The last film they chose was Frozen 2.
What is your favourite book?
I enjoy reading autobiographies, my favourite one would be Richard Branson’s.
What’s your favourite genre of music?
I like a wide selection of music, and will tend to listen to the radio or a playlist rather than picking a specific album. My favourite genre would probably be pop.
What’s your favourite place in the world?
I love to travel, and being able to do so with my family is something I am very grateful for. My favourite place is Dubai, we went on a family holiday there last year, and I would very much like to return.
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself
I have been involved in Scouting since I was 6 years old, having done a variety of roles, I currently help out at my son’s Beaver Scouts. I have personally gained a lot from being involved in Scouts and was lucky enough to attend a World Scout Jamboree with 50,000 people from almost every country in the world, so being able to give something back is something I value.
What’s your favourite animal?
Elephants, while working at Chester Zoo I got to see them every day, and the work the team there do is incredible.
What’s your favourite Netflix or TV series?
I like some of the real-life documentaries on Netflix or TV.
