Learning at Chester Cathedral

We offer tours and workshops for schools to suit all curriculums from Key Stage 1 to A-Level. The department consists of a full-time Education Officer and a team of volunteers, all DBS checked and working within the safeguarding policy of the Diocese of Chester.

Education visits follow a regular programme of tours and workshops for Foundation Stage, KS1 and KS2. We are happy to work with schools to develop a plan of activity that fits the learning outcomes of the visit.

Educational KS3, KS4 and KS5 tours and workshops are frequently tailored to match a school or college’s scheme of work across a variety of subject areas.

Chester Cathedral can be used to explore local history for creative and visual arts or to enhance classroom teaching.

Workshops we have offered at KS3 and KS4 include:

  • Remembrance and memorial;
  • Anselm’s ontological argument;
  • Eucharist;
  • Rites of passage;
  • Crime and punishment in the Consistory Court.

We run annual Faith Badge mornings with the Scout Association for Beaver and Cub Scouts. The sessions include the presentation of badges in the stunning surroundings of Chester Cathedral.
