At Chester Cathedral, we have a variety of beautiful spaces, both indoors and outdoors, that can be hired for a diverse range of events, such as gala dinners, conferences, wedding receptions and concerts.

The Nave

The Nave is the central and principal part of a Christian church, it features adjacent aisles (North Nave Aisle, South Nave Aisle) which separate it from the main body with stone pillars.

Both sides of the Nave arcade are almost indistinguishable stylistically; however, the South side was constructed c1360, and the North 1490.

We have previously hosted awards ceremonies, concerts and formal gala dinners within the Nave, which could make it a perfect space for your event. If you would like to expand your capacity, you may also be interested in hiring the South Transept for additional space.

South Transept

From the 1530s up until the end of 1881 the South Transept was previously used as the separate Parish church of St Oswald.
 For large concerts in the Nave the South Transept can also be used for additional seating to increase your capacity.

The Refectory

Built in the thirteenth century by Simon de Whitchurch, the Refectory was constructed to be a dining hall for the monks of St Werburgh’s Abbey.

Today, alongside serving as our Cafe 1092 in the daytime, it could be a fantastic backdrop for your event in the evening.

Cloister Room

Our thirteenth-century Cloister Room can be used in a variety of formations, such as with theatre style seating, or round tables, making it an ideal space for use as a green room, meeting space or seminars.

Chapter House

Dating from the thirteenth-century, the Chapter House’s rich architecture creates a beautiful space which can house up to 108.

Finished in the Gothic style, and with Jacobean oak flooring, the Chapter House has an elegance that creates a perfect atmosphere for many events. The Chapter House is a versatile space wonderfully suited for a variety of events, from drinks and wedding receptions, to lectures and exhibitions.

Leading visitors into the Chapter House is the adjacent Vestibule, a small foyer with Gothic vaulting.

Dean's Field

Situated across from the Cathedral, on Abbey Street, is the spacious green known as the Dean’s Field, with a capacity of up to 4000 guests standing.

Located on top of the remains of Roman barracks, the Dean’s Field offers a large space that has previously hosted events such as open-air cinema screenings, team-building and summer parties.

Adjacent to the Dean’s Field, there is a seated picnic area for up to 60 guests, and toilet facilities. Within this area, there is an electrical supply which can allow for the likes of portable PA systems to add to your atmosphere.
