Pangburn Window (Stained Glass) - Tender Opportunity

Up to £30,000 (including VAT)

The Dean and Chapter of Chester Cathedral are commissioning a design made in stained glass to be displayed in a recess above the main entrance of 30 St Werburgh Street, a property that was formerly the site of the Abbot and then Bishop's Palace, later the King’s School in the 1880s, and until recently the City Centre branch of Barclays Bank. This building has now been returned to Chester Cathedral and will be used to improve the facilities and offer the Cathedral is able to make to the local and visiting communities. The main entrance leads onto St Werburgh Street and is proximate to the Cathedral’s General Visitor Entrance and Great West Doors.  This door is anticipated to become the principal door into the Cathedral’s visitor interpretation space, box office, and admissions area. The design should represent the spiritual purpose of the Cathedral but should not present a barrier to entry for people of all faiths and none. One of the aims the Cathedral has for its use of the former school building is to establish a confident church presence in the City Centre. Preference will be given to designs that are, in the interests of the assessors, contemporary, invitational, inspirational, and eye-catching.

The invitation to tender can be found here with supplementary photographs available here.

Deadline for submission: Friday 7 February 2025

Non-Executive Member for Chester Cathedral Chapter

Our non-executive trustees (known as our non-executive Chapter members) are a small team of dedicated individuals who are willing to support and guide our senior executive team. We aim for a team of people from diverse backgrounds and with a range of different skills and experience to be 'critical friends' to the Executive Team in all areas of Cathedral life. The Chapter plays a critical part in the implementation of our strategic plan. Our plan takes account of the needs of our community and our many stakeholders, making the most of our unique position within the Diocese and ensuring the continued sustainability of the Cathedral. The Chapter meets roughly every two months for around four hours, plus additional strategy days.
