The Refectory Café, set in our 13th century monk’s dining hall is definitely not to be missed, whether visiting the cathedral or simply doing a spot of shopping in Chester.  A relaxing eatery in unique surroundings, the Refectory Café is the perfect pit-stop for morning coffee, afternoon tea, a light lunch or a business meeting.

Each day, delicious sandwiches, cakes and pastries are made fresh, right here in our kitchen. Sample our extensive lunchtime menu, treat yourself to one of our delicious cakes and take advantage of our free Wi-Fi.

Our Refectory includes a 17th century tapestry on the west wall, Heraldic paintings representing the Earls of Chester and the Creation Window depicting the six days of creation.


Our menu:

Wholesome homemade soup with
crusty bread and butter
Freshly made pasta salads with a choice of

  • Cheese with tomato, onion,
    cucumber, rocket, peppers and lettuce;
  • Tuna mayonnaise with
    tomato, onion, cucumber, rocket,
    peppers and lettuce;
  • Ham and cheese with
    tomato, onion, cucumber, rocket,
    peppers and lettuce.
Freshly made sandwiches with a choice

  • Tuna mayonnaise and cucumber;
  • Smoked salmon and cream cheese;
  • Honey roast ham;
  • Cheshire cheese and pickle.

All sandwiches will be served on white
or brown bread with hand-cooked crisps.

Paninis to order with a choice of:

  • Mozzarella, rocket and tomato;
  • Ham and cheese;
  • Tuna melt.

Each panini is served with nachos and a small salad.
