“releese us out of this cruell bondegg”

Experience this extraordinary story of resistance and resilience, set in 18th-century Virginia, Barbados, and London, inspired by a 1723 letter from an anonymous enslaved Virginian to the archbishop of London.

Written and performed by Desirée Baptiste, Incidents, a one-hour poem-play, is a haunting encounter with our nation’s imperial past, exploring slave literacy, slave laws, resistance, and, of course, religion.

Followed by a Q&A with the writer.
