Saturday 7 September at 7.30pm, London Concertante return to the Cathedral with Music from the Movies by Candlelight. Immerse yourself in an unforgettable evening of music as the acclaimed orchestra takes you on a captivating journey through some of the most iconic film scores of all time. Tickets available here.
Chester Cathedral is delighted to host Peter Marlow: The English Cathedrals from 10 September to 1 October. The free and exceptional photographic exhibition chronicling all 42 naves of England’s Anglican cathedrals. Peter Marlow was commissioned in 2008 by Royal Mail on the 300th year anniversary of the completion of St Paul’s Cathedral to photograph six Anglican Cathedrals that were issued as commemorative stamps. So taken was he by these initial magnificent interiors that he set out to photograph all 42 which will be on display in the South Transept. Open during normal Cathedral hours. Find our more here.
To kick of The English Cathedral exhibition, the Friends of Chester Cathedral will be hosting a private viewing on Tuesday 10 September at 7.30pm which includes a glass of wine. Book your ticket here.
In the lead up to our much-anticipated Trena Cox: Reflections 100 exhibition in October, join artist and Project Lead of the Trena Cox Project, Aleta Doran, in a tour of the Trena Cox windows at Chester Cathedral. This is a free event as part of Heritage Open Days 2024. Tickets available here.
Featuring a cast of West End singers, Eagles by Candlelight, return Friday 13 September at 7.30pm. Come along for an unforgettable evening of Eagles hits. Book your ticket here.
Saturday 14 September at 7.30pm, Meat Loaf by Candlelight return with a live cast of West End singers, including starts of the West End production of ‘Bat Out of Hell’, accompanied by an incredible live rock band. Book tickets here.
We are very excited to host our first Small Sounds drop-in sessions this month! Chester Cathedral have been selected by the Cathedral Music Trust as one of just six cathedrals to pilot a new music programme for early years children and their families. These FREE sessions are for children 0-5 years old and will take place every Monday at 2pm during term time from 16 September! Through songs and play the sessions will help youngsters to find their voices and experience the joy of singing. Find out more here.

Calling all country music lovers! The Country Music Experience is hosting two shows on Thursday 26 September at 6.30pm and 9.15pm. Put on your cowboy hat and boots to dance the night away to country anthems from across the decades. Including songs from Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers, Shania Twain, Blake Shelton, Taylor Swift, and much more. Tickets to the earlier showing here and late showing here.
Friday 27 September at 7.30pm, join the Band of the Royal Air Force College for Music in the Air featuring tributes to the Battle of Britain. Under the direction of the Royal Air Force’s Principal Director of Music, Wing Commander Richard Murray and special guest conductor & Royal Air Forces Association Ambassador, Anthony Inglis, come along to hear inspirational music composed to depict the magnificent feats of bravery in the air performed by one of the UK’s finest symphonic wind bands. Prepare to be transported to a world of immersive candlelight entertainment with An Evening of Celine Dion on Saturday 28 September at 7.30pm. This spectacular event is performed by the multi-award-winning Miss Julia Martin and has been described by Sky Television as ‘Simply Phenomenal’. Tickets available here.
Worship
There are quite a few September services worth highlighting this month! As always, everyone is invited to join us in worship at Chester Cathedral. Here are some stand out services coming up this month:
- Saturday 7 September | 3.30pm | Evensong celebrates 800 years of Greyfriars
- Sunday 8 September | all services will be celebrating the Blessed Virgin Mary to whom the Cathedral is dedicated
- Sunday 15 September | 3pm | Evensong for Battle of Britain Sunday
- Sunday 22 September | 10.30am Eucharist celebrates harvest for the Cathedral community | 3pm Evensong is County Harvest
- Sunday 29 September | all day we celebrate Michael and All Angels | Evensong will include installation of new members of the College of Canons | the Cathedral choir go to Liverpool Cathedral in the afternoon for Four Choirs Evensong
