Melanesia Blog #2

Dean Tim and wife Jen (also Cathedral Education Officer) are away from the Cathedral for three weeks in the Solomon Isles, preaching, teaching, working with the diocese and meeting the locals.  Here's todays update, whilst you may review Tim's first blog here.

Tuesday 11 June

We spent this morning meeting with the Cathedral clergy and a few local colleagues talking about Chester Cathedral. Discussing the challenges of a Cathedral with doors was a novelty for them. St Barnabas, Honiara, is completely open to the city, its noise and bustle. We were told that often local homeless people come in and sleep in the pews overnight. I asked whether they had to move them on, "No! We just leave them be." Their worship space is beautiful and by no means private. Pictured here is Dean Wilfred showing Jen and me the Melanesian Christ outside the West End - reminding us of our Global Images of Christ exhibition with many cultures, including our own, depicting Jesus in our own image.
