Volunteer Week 2025

For Volunteer Week we want to thank all of our incredible volunteers who work so hard to help the Cathedral - what we do wouldn't be possible without them. 

We wanted to highlight a few of our incredible volunteers who are always willing to give a helping hand. 

The main image for this blog is a picture from Nativity on the Move with volunteers Ann, Stella, and Tony. 

Ann has been volunteering at the Cathedral for over 10 years and can usually be found helping the Education Team (meticulously creating resources for family activities and education visits). She often participates in Nativity on the Move at during Advent and Christmas, assists with Pilgrim Week, and is part of the Cathedral linen volunteer on a rota to take home and wash linen for Holly Communion. Ann has also been a tour guide, a welcomer, and welcomed people to organ recitals. 

Stella is one of our volunteer vergers working hard to support the vestry team. She can often be found around the Cathedral helping out. Stella also volunteers to help the Education team. 

Tony has been a volunteer since 2011 and has done a variety of roles including finance volunteer (especially helping with Gift Aid), Development Trust including yearly accounts, Welcomer, Tour guide, and LEGO® project organiser from the start. He truly cares about the Cathedral and is here at least three days a week. Recently he help put together a Chester Heritage Festival event which allowed visitors to walk through the Cathedral in LEGO® which had not been done before (it was hugely successful with over 500 people walking through). 

And of course we have to mention one of our longest serving (if not the longest serving) volunteer, Jane Jones who has been volunteering since 1995 at the Cathedral (that's 30 years this year!). She works with the Mission group, helps raise money for education, and works with local and international church groups. She is always spending her time welcoming and encouraging others. She is caring and makes sure to keep regular contact with all her volunteers that work with her. Jane is also an active member of the congregation and loves a good bake sale.
