What's On May 2024

Another month into 2024! Hopefully all those April showers will bring some incredible May flowers for the Cathedral garden.

If you’ve visited the Cathedral in the last week you may have noticed the art exhibition by Royal Cambrian Academy of Art in Conwy currently up in the Chapter House. Artwork by selection of RCA members will be on display until Wednesday 15 May so make sure to check it out on your next visit.

We are also happy to announce the after some necessary maintenance, the Tower Tour is back!! Climb 216 stairs in this behind the scenes tour which stops at various viewing galleries to admire breath-taking views of the Cathedral’s interior along the way to the top of the tower. On Saturday 4 May we see the return of the Cheshire Print Fair. Come along to see the best of print design and paper-based crafts. At the print fair you’ll find primarily local artists, designers, makers, and printers showcasing their amazing work. No booking necessary, just show up and support local artists.

Join us on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 May we have two nights of Fleetwood Mac by Candlelight. The concerts will feature a cast of West End singers and a live band playing all the best songs by Fleetwood Mac! If you don’t have your tickets yet you can get them here.

The following weekend we are joined again by Chester Music Society with their Crowning Glory concert featuring the music of Mozart and Handel. Tickets can be purchased here.

Calling all Tina Turner fans! Dixie Daye and her incredible live band will be at the Cathedral Friday 24 and Saturday 25 May for Tina Turner by Candlelight. Grab your tickets here.

Did you know our Education team do Family Activities during school holidays? You can find them in the back of the Nave on Tuesday 28 and Wednesday 29 offering family fun arts and crafts from 11am - 1pm and 2pm - 4pm. Families can create acetate stained glass windows, draw your own or colour in a design to be turned into a badge, build an arch, and more. This year part of our Family Activities - run by our Artist in Residence, Aleta Doran - are funded as part of the UKSPF and are themed around our upcoming exhibition Trena Cox: Reflection 100. Family Activities are free for visitors with donations to our Education Department always welcome.

Worship

This month we have two additional evening Eucharists (both in traditional language). After forty days celebration of the resurrection, we reach Ascension Day, when Jesus returned to be with his Father to take up his throne of glory. On Thursday 9 May at 5.30pm all are welcome to join us for Choral Eucharist for Ascension Day sung by the Cathedral Choir.

On Thursday 30 May at 5.30pm there will be a BCP Eucharist for Corpus Christi. This day is also called the Day of Thanksgiving for the Institution of Holy Communion. The service will be sung by the Nave Choir and all are welcome to join us.
