Anthony Lees-Smith - Chester Cathedral

Canon Anthony Lees-Smith

Canon Missioner

Anthony hails from Leicester where he was vicar of the parish of St Denys, Evington. Alongside being a parish priest, he held roles as area dean, curate training officer and trustee for a homelessness charity.

Anthony studied languages before working as an accountant and then primary school teacher. He was ordained in Ely in 2009 after training for ministry in Durham. He has spent most of the last 25 years living or working in religiously diverse communities, experiences which inspired the doctorate he has just completed at the University of Chester. Anthony’s Cathedral portfolio includes education and learning, arts and cultural events, and social engagement.

Anthony was installed as Canon Missioner on Saturday 27 July 2024.
