Richard grew up in East Yorkshire and answered a call to ordained ministry after a career as a wastewater scientist.

Ordained in 2004, he trained in Durham serving his curacy in Scarborough, and then as vicar of rural Elloughton and an Assistant DDO. In 2013, he became vicar of St. Nicholas, Beverley and the Archdeaconry Training Adviser. Richard’s most recent post was Vicar of Scarborough where he served as Chair of the House of Clergy for York Diocese. Richard is married to Elizabeth, and they have three adult children. He enjoys classical music and pursuing his love for all things geological.

Richard is the Bishop’s Adviser for Diocesan Discernment of Ordained Ministry and was installed as Canon Diocesan on Sunday 21 January 2024.
