We begin the month with a special Choral Evensong on Monday 1 July at 5.30pm that will include a blessing of the Pilgrim Porch. The Pilgrim Porch instillation began in 2022 as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. The glass doors allow for the medieval wooden doors to remain open to the city, giving a view of the interior of the church from outside.

For the first time, Chester is hosting a Festival of Ideas from 4 to 7 July. There will be activities and events across the city as part of the festival, including our next instalment of Assemble at Chester Cathedral. Assemble is a place to discuss big topics and at Thursday’s event panellists (which includes an AI bot) will be discussing ‘AI: good or bad for humanity?’ Book your FREE ticket here. Chester Art Beat consists of free arts events in the city from 5 to 7 July. During the Chester Art Beat, the Cathedral will have art on display in the Chapter House. Find our more and download the discovery map of where to find art across the city here.

Featuring J’Adele, the UK’s leading Adele tribute and her incredible live band, Adele by Candlelight will be at the Cathedral on Friday 5 July! Book your tickets here.

Our Nave Choir will be at St Saviour’s Parish Church on Saturday 6 July for a concert celebrating the Anglo-Irish composer Charles Villiers Stanford, in the centenary year of his death. Stanford at 100 will feature music by the composer and his students, John Ireland, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, and Ralph Vaughan Williams. Amasing Back Through The Decades will take you on an exciting musical journey back in time exploring a world of music and dance from 1950's to present day performed by many local schools. This sold out event is taking place 8 and 9 July 

The Music of Abba by Candlelight returns to the Cathedral 12 and 13 July. Featuring the UK's leading Abba Tribute Act, Abba Reunion, join us for this sing-along concert packed to the rafters with over 20 Abba hits that will leave you dancing in the aisles. Tickets available here.

Come along 19 and 20 July for Elton John by Candlelight, featuring a cast of West End singers and epic live band, experience the hits of Rock Legend Elton John as you have never heard them before! Book tickets here

There will be a special Choral Eucharist, in traditional language, on Monday 22 July at 5.30pm for Mary Magdalene. Mary Magdalene, according to the gospels, travelled with Jesus as one of his followers and was a witness to his crucifixion and resurrection.

Metal Detection exhibition returns on 27 July in the Chapter House. Metal detecting enthusiasts from across the region will descend for a fascinating exhibition of metal detecting discoveries. This is a free event, find out more here

Internationally acclaimed boys choir, Libera, will be performing a live concert accompanied by an orchestra with enhanced lighting which accentuates their harmonies and celestial sounds. Book tickets here.
